Japanese Forest Grass is a deciduous, graceful arching grass fromJapan. It grows 1-2 feet tall and spreads by underground runners. Prefers part shade in hotter areas and grows well in rich, moist, well drained soil. There are many variations available – green, variegated and gold forms. The variety ‘Aureola’ has green leaves with longitudinal yellow stripes, grows to 14 inches tall and is the most widely used. The variety ‘Fubuki’ (which means ‘Snowstorm’) has white and green striped leaves with pink highlights in cooler weather. Beautiful used in Japanese style gardens along with Japanese Maples and in rock gardens.
