The ornamental species of Fescue, Festuca glauca, makes a dense tuft of blue-green foliage with buff flower spikes appearing in the summer. It is very drought tolerant, grows in poor soils and can be used as a lawn substitute, as edging for flower beds or to add color to the border. Or most popular variety, ‘Elijah Blue’ has intense metallic blue foliage as grows to only 8 inches tall. ‘Siskiyou’ grows 1-2 feet tall and is a lighter blue gray. Although evergreen, after a few years clumps may die out in the center and can be dug up, cleaned and replanted. Grow in full sun.
