The Orchid family encompasses hundreds of genera and thousands of species with countless variations in size, color, shape, fragrance, and habitat. We carry both epiphytic (those that take in their nutrition through aerial roots) and terrestrial orchids (those that grow in rich, moist soil). In general orchids require good bright light and prefer good air-circulation and moist, humid conditions. Allow the potting mix to dry out slightly between waterings, then water by spraying the whole plant and flushing out salt buildup in the medium. Provide extra humidity by standing the plants in a gravel tray with water below the rocks. Never fertilize a dry plant, and feed “weakly, weekly”, using an orchid food at half strength every time you water. Repot orchids every couple of years by replacing the bark and only after the plant has bloomed.
We receive weekly shipments of many species including Phalaenopsis, Oncidiums, Miltonias, Paphiopedilums (Lady Slippers), Cymbidiums, Dendrobiums, Epidendrums, and many intergeneric hybrids.
