Pomegranate

The Pomegranate tree was introduced into California by Spanish settlers in 1769.  In this country it is grown for its fruits mainly in the drier parts of California and Arizona. The flavor of the pomegranate fruit ranges from sour to sweet, and the color of the skin varies from green to white and red to purple. Some Pomegranate Trees are armed with thorns but most modern hybrids are thornless. The Pomegranate fruit ripens in early fall, and during the fall the leaves turn bright yellow and do not regrow until the spring.
