Fig

Figs are members of the Ficus family and are grown for their edible fruit. They are fast growing trees that are deciduous in the winter. All figs can be pruned to contain height. Dwarf varieties are particularly good for large containers. Figs are easy to grow in most soils. Fruit is produced mainly in summer and sometime again in late summer to early fall. Most need the heat to produce good fruit. Varieties that produce in cooler areas are noted. Figs prefer regular deep watering and thrive in full sun. Figs are generally hardy to 10-15 degrees and do not require pollenizers in the home garden.
