Shade Azaleas

These Belgian Indica varieties and other Azalea hybrids need bright shade or filtered sunlight in hot areas. Most Belgian Indica hybrids were originally developed for greenhouse culture and need protection from cold where temperatures dip below 20 degrees. They generally produce showy semi-double to double blooms and flower mainly in the spring, with some varieties repeating in fall. As with all azaleas, plant in soil that has been amended with peat moss or a soil mix specifically designed for acid-loving plants. Be sure to place the root-ball slightly higher than soil level to avoid future crown rot. Avoid cultivating around Azaleas as they are shallow rooters. Keep plants evenly moist, provide mulch around plants and occasionally deep water to flush out any salt accumulation. Below are a few of our most popular varieties.
